Cardinal's Message
Dear Friends in Christ,
Each year I am humbled by the extraordinary generosity of the People of God of the Archdiocese of New York. As we prepare to embark on our next one hundred years as a community of faith, I would invite you to join me in looking back over the accomplishments of our first two centuries. During that time the clergy, religious, and faithful of the Archdiocese have built the Church here in our midst with a dedication that never ceases to marvel.
Over four hundred splendid parishes have been established, almost three hundred elementary and secondary schools were founded and continue to thrive, and our charitable institutions and agencies have been serving those most in need with nothing less than heroism.
All of this has been made possible because of the loyalty and generosity of the laity of this great Archdiocese. Year after year for the past thirty years, you have willingly devoted yourselves to Sharing God’s Gifts through the Cardinal’s Appeal; and as a result, countless millions have been spiritually served in the nineteen Vicariates of the Archdiocese in which we have been celebrating our Bicentennial Anniversary with enthusiasm and pleasure.
With all of this in mind, I write to ask you to consider a truly sacrificial pledge of to the 2008 Cardinal’s Appeal. Your support will guarantee our continuing to sustain struggling parishes, educate young people academically and spiritually, care for the neediest among us, prepare future priests and deacons, and assist both clergy and religious in their advanced years. By having a part in all of this, you know you will be sharing in the work of the Lord.
With prayerful best wishes for you and your loved ones, may I remain
Cordially with the Lord,
His Eminence, Edward Cardinal Egan
Archbishop of New York
