Help Form Priests for Future Generations
Dear Friend,
In the life of the Church, there are moments that remind us God continues to work among us. As a priest, you witness this daily in the people you serve, the sacraments you celebrate, and the quiet ways the Lord moves in your community. I write to you now as a brother priest and as your archbishop, grateful for your partnership in the mission of our archdiocese.
On May 23, 2026, I will ordain Joseph Haas and John Ippolito for our archdiocese. Their “yes” grew over time through prayer, questions, and a willingness to listen for the Lord’s voice. I am deeply grateful for their openness and their desire to serve God’s people, a desire you know well from your own journey to the altar. Their witness brings to mind how God so often works: quietly and patiently, drawing us forward step by step.
Recently, during a Vocations Day at St. Joseph’s Seminary, I spent time with over 200 young men discerning what God may be asking of them. There was a quiet seriousness among them, along with a sense of hope. Many of them have been shaped by priests like you, by your example, your encouragement, and your faithfulness. It was a reminder that the future of the Church is already taking shape and that God continues to call disciples, not only those who are preparing for the priesthood, but also each one of us.
The Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal is one way we respond to God’s call together, strengthening parishes, supporting our schools, serving those in need, and forming seminarians for the priesthood. Many parishes are experiencing the effects of delayed participation, and the needs of our archdiocese remain real.
I ask you to continue championing the Appeal, and invite you to consider your own gift as a witness to the shared mission we carry together by visiting cardinalsappeal.org/May2026.
Please keep Joseph and John in your prayers as they prepare for ordination. Be assured of mine for you, your parish, and all those entrusted to your care. As I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks
Archbishop of New York
